More about the MBSR Course
This curriculum is evidence-based and is considered the gold standard to reduce stress and enhance health and well-being. The last two decades of research around these practices has for the first time in our history given validity to this work, citing the real health improvements that can and do happen. Many thanks to Jon Kabat- Zinn, Ph.D., who pioneered this work in the late 70’s for patients at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. For more on the roots of MBSR and the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn. Your instructor, Kari Lyons-Price is a certified MBSR Teacher, via the non-profit, Mindfulness Northwest.
Research shows Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR):
Boosts the immune system
Reduces chronic pain
Increases attention and sharpens mental focus
Improves coping with conditions like depression and anxiety
Commitment
Even though all of our lives are full and challenges can and do arise that may thwart our best efforts, to receive the benefit from a program like MBSR, you must be ready to make your best effort. This means attending all eight class sessions, the full day of Mindfulness and engaging with the home practice as best as you can.
The invitation is to bring a gentle but consistent effort with an open-mind and a spirit of interest and curiosity. The support from the instructor is always available to you, as is the recorded and written materials, and from the group itself, but the decision to commit to MBSR can come only from you.
Time & Place
We will meet 9 times total. Each Wednesday for 2.5 hours per week from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm and additionally for our Day of Mindfulness retreat day, from 9 am to 3:30 pm. We begin Winter quarter on February 7th and end on March 27th. The classroom opens 15-minutes before class starts. The course location for all meetings is 400 Yakima St, Wenatchee, WA. This is a newly remodeled home just off the back parking lot of the Plaza Super Jet, in the heart of Wenatchee. It is also the home of Stone Blossom Sangha and open to all people.
Hybrid Learning
While there are benefits of both online and in person learning, we are planning for the first time to offer this program as a hybrid. So you can join from the comfort of your own home, or meet us in person. Either way the group will connect and interact just as if we were all in the same room. If you have questions don’t hesitate to ask.
If you need to miss a class for any reason, and are not able to catch it at home online, we may be able to record the session for you. However, it is not recommended to miss more than one session. If you already know your schedule doesn’t allow to make it to class more than 6 times, then wait until the time is better for you. Your personal experience and growth will be anchored in the group experience. Listening to and learning from one another is a key pathway in this kind of experiential education.
